Walking away as soon as someone does something you don’t like isn’t strength. It’s an inability to repair. And a lack of communication skills. Strength is having difficult conversations and not running because you’re afraid of being hurt.

The name of the game today in our trauma recovery is not overwhelming ourselves. Trauma's overwhelming enough. We don't need to add to the load w/ perfectionistic expectations & "tough love" bullsh*t we learned once upon a time from someone who wasn't worth modeling.

This is something I learned when I entered early adulthood - I don't think the idea would have registered with me the same before then.
To waste your time in battles not of your choosing is more than just a mistake, it is stupidity of the highest order.

And people live in so much shame of “why can’t you just stop.” It’s hard to stop something when it’s the only form of love and comfort you ever had in childhood. It’s hard to stop the one thing that soothes and gives a dopamine hit.

Apart from reading about the painful experience pre-morphine - it is great to hear Sarah praise Mullingar Hospital in this article! I have never been there but I have Mullingar heritage.

I think this is the first quote on gratitude I have read that I really relate to.
Gratitude is like a muscle. When strong, it makes us resilient. When weak, we are easily broken.

You strengthen gratitude through conscious practice. You lose it through unconscious laziness.

Original African themed painting I have - Kagia
I got my African painting back framed today from Frank the framer in Castleknock. Very good job!
I still don't know who the Kagia artist who painted it is. I picked it up in a charity shop years ago.
I was in touch with Mercy Kagia who is based in London several years ago about it and she told me she didn't paint it.
If anyone knows who the artist is and who the tribe are featured on the painting please let me know.

Lots of trauma survivors have trouble making decisions about lots of things-- jobs, relationships, living arrangements. That PTSD "freeze" thing kicks in; or our "fawn" response has us "choosing" what we think others prefer.

I personally think that the consciousness of spiritual matters is appalling around the world. There are, I believe, only a handful of living people around the world who are both insightful in this area and to be admired in general for being au fait of the area in broad terms.
