Immigration and the Irish language — DJP (2026)
I shouldn't have to spell this out – I have been aware of this for over 20 years – but generally immigration
to Ireland is good for the Irish language.
Not only do most immigrants to Ireland speak at least two languages – many of them speak more than
two and many of them have a much greater understanding of the position of minority languages and
cultural diversity from their original countries so they can I believe understand the position of the Irish
language in Ireland more and why some people believe strongly that we should preserve and try to grow
Gaeilge.
I do think that the growth in immigration in Ireland over the last few years is unsustainable and we should
be permitting a lot less new people into the country over the next few years so we can cope but I don't
make a false connection saying that immigration is not good for the Irish language and to the contrary I
think that most of the time it is the reverse.
If the Irish language in Ireland is not in a strong a place as ideal it is because the vast bulk of the native
Irish population have no strong committment to brush up on the language in a decent sense and speak it.

An Fál Carrach (Falcarragh) — An observation — DJP (2026)
From my Facebook tonight below. I visited the north-west Donegal Gaeltacht area on Saturday although
forgot to take a photo of An tSean Bheairic. You can see the photos I took on my day trip on WC here,
here and see the short video I took of Gleann Nimhe here.

Ag foghlaim na Gaeilge — Gramadach na Gaeilge / Learning Irish — Irish Language Grammar — DJP
I saved these 3 jpegs from searches I did on ChatGPT tonight.
I understand the AL, AC, AF and have a limited knowledge of the MC.
If the meanings of the names of the other 4 tenses including the MC can at any point register with me – first in English! – I might be able to get my head around them in Irish.
The names of tenses no's 4-7 below seem a bit alien to me to understand in English (although I can understand the theory of the names of no. 4 and 5 somewhat, and the examples in no. 6 in the third image) and there is no hope of me understanding the theory behind this Irish language grammar without understanding the terms in the English language which is my first language.
Am posting this here for reference so I can look back at the post and maybe over time the names of no's 4-7 will register with me – again first in English.

Update on the hashtags — Youtube
I posted here a few days ago about the Irish language placenames hashtags I got registered on Youtube. Since then I have gone through my podcasts again more than once and while most of the newer hashtags I entered are not showing up with their own hashtag pages, presumably because I do not have many podcasts with the tags, these hashtags below are showing up properly with their own pages on top of the original placename tags I managed to get registered with their own pages.
Most of these hashtags below are as Gaeilge.
Nóta/Note – I have not and am not going to tag the vast majority of the podcasts I have recorded since
2009 for a couple of reasons. There are loads of as Gaeilge podcasts registered for some of these
hashtags below incl. the Dáil constituencies hashtags because of this and also because I want as
Gaeilge stuff to be represented well on them because most of hashtags are themselves as
Gaeilge hashtags. 😊

Haischlibeanna d'logainmneacha Gaeilge — Youtube
During the week I spent a few hours updating (or rather correcting) a lot of my hashtags on Youtube for my Youtube channels and the Ar Mhuin na Muice Near FM Youtube channel which I administrate.
I mainly formatted them properly just for the as Gaeilge / bilingual podcasts I have done with hashtags of placenames in north Dublin.
Anyway all the below placenames as Gaeilge in these two lists are now registered on Youtube with their own individual pages e.g #AnChúlóg (Coolock). I think there has to be at least 6 videos / podcasts with a tag on Youtube for the tag to register.
Hopefully the nós of adding as Gaeilge placename tags will catch on on Youtube and I won't be surprised if it does / at least somewhat. I remember hearing that the nós was popular on TikTok.
The As Gaeilge placenames I registered on Youtube and with their own individual pages now include:
Baile Átha Cliath 15 agus Oirdheisceart na Mí / Dublin 15 and South-East Meath:
#AnChabrach / Cabra
#AnChúlóg / Coolock
#BailenahAbhann (Very small village in Conamara / Connemara – where TG4 and Cúla4 are based.
The name is also to be found in several other counties too)
#AnMuileanngCearr / Mullingar (County Town of Westmeath)
#BaileÁthaLuain / Athlone
#AnFálCarrach (Gaeltacht town, with substantial number of Irish-speaking residents and visitors, from
what I know. More widely known as Falcarragh)
#AnClochánLiath / Dungloe (Is Baile Seirbhíse Gaeltachta é)
#LeitirCeanainn / Letterkenny (Is Baile Seirbhíse Gaeltachta é)although I believe the area is not a strong Gaeltacht area. More widely known as Furbo maybe)
